It is positioned at the intersection of the road from Roč to Hum and inaugurated in 1977, as the first feature of the Alley. The two-meter-high three-sided stone pillar is carved in the shape of a stylized Glagolitic letter S – which symbolizes logos, mind, reason and the first Slavic alphabet – the beginning of Slavic literacy. At the start of its activity, the Čakavski sabor chose the Glagolitic letter S as its trademark. The conceptual design for the monument was elaborated by the sculptor and painter Josip Diminić.
